Domestic Violence

Domestic violence affects all dimensions of survivors’ wellness, but especially their mental health. Chronic stress, anxiety, fear, shame, and sadness affects how survivors think, feel, and act and can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety.

The traumatic events of domestic abuse cause long-term changes in physiological, emotion, cognition, and memory changes that can cause difficulties with establishing and engaging in healthy relationships, adapting to change, coping with adversity, and being productive at work or school.
